Geometric Solids

Here is a cool video for giving examples of the geometric solids:
There is also a really awesome website where you can interact with 3D shapes, see their nets, and highlight vertices, faces, and edges.

Similes and Metaphors

My scholars LOVED this video!

I also had them give me a topic to create similes and metaphors for as a class before they did some as small groups. Our topic - Minecraft! Little did I know it is becoming a little less popular for some 4th graders, but they still came up with fun similes and metaphors!

Core Connection: 4th grade English Language Arts, Language Standard 5 a. Explain the meaning of simple similes and metaphors (e.g. pretty as a picture) in context.

St. Patrick's Day Math

The school I am at, scholars are split into ability levels for math class, and we also have "core math" time to cover grade level math material. Today for core math, and even in my math group as review, we did this awesome activity I found on Teachers Pay Teachers : Lucky Geometry! It covers the geometry section of the 4th grade common core and reviews types of lines and angles. My class absolutely LOVED it and want to play it again on Friday!

Here is the link to the activity: Lucky Geometry.I printed it off on colorful paper and laminated it for many years of use!
